5 Aug 2002 06:59 ammy mom's college friend, jim, is a great guy, eccentric and hilarious, but really kind of childish in both the innocent way and some other ways. they were dating her (sophomore?) year, and she broke up with him because he slept with her roommate/friend. he didn't find much of anything wrong with having done so, or didn't seem to. they're still pretty close friends, however.
he's sort of a mad scientist. goes to burning man every year. has a tomato-shaped hole in the garage door where he launched a tin-foil wrapped tomato through it with a thing he designed. engineers lasers and has them built for fun--engineers planes at cessna for a living. at his house my sister and i rode around behind his bicycle in a rickshaw he made out of pieces of a kids' bike, plywood, an umbrella and a giant rattan chair.
just now heard on the radio: a garage winemaker in seattle who is a competitive cyclist (um, yeah, jim too) and a boeing engineer?
my mom: a--cyclist and--hee! did you hear that?
me: he's like jim about wine.
mom: and i think jim even works for boeing!
me: ::rolling my eyes:: cessna.
mom: right, cessna. aha, but he USED to work for boeing and they LAID HIM OFF...
i'm not sure, however, whether her memory may be trusted even in this.
in other news, i ate two and a half full meals yesterday.
