I do actually LIKE painted walls, but the biggest benefit in painting walls as opposed to papering them, in my book, is that you don't have to hang wallpaper, which is a distinctly unpleasant process.
It seems like getting the wallpaper off in our four downstairs rooms might not be as much trouble as we feared, but it's still not going to leave us with walls that can be painted without hanging a new layer of paper for painting on; so that means that any wall that we wallpapered would actually be less work than the ones we paint.
I mean, this doesn't make a big enough difference to make me want wallpapered walls in general. But I'm definitely thinking about it for the accent walls. (We can only use actual paper wallpaper, no plastic content, which is a small fraction of wallpaper on the market and often a more expensive one, though. Poking around for something worthy of a feature wall that's also not exhorbitantly priced is far from trivial.)
