- We have seen some slight movement on the estate! Namely, the lawyer needs some papers from us that are necessary to do the inventory of the estate, and we spent a couple of days last week looking for them unsuccessfully. It occurred to us that they might be in the strongbox at the bank... and possibly Wax got them this morning because it looks like these papers on the sofa might be them, but she was too busy to explain it before she went to work. At any rate, the inventorying approacheth.
- Also moving along: insurance from when the pipe exploded and flooded our basement and destroyed our hot water heater! This happened in August and the heater has been replaced and all the water is working again, the work in the basement has been done, etc. The issue is that our homeowner's insurance and our plumber's insurance (because it was their newly-installed pipe that exploded in a one-in-a-million freak accident, baffling all ten professionals who were present on the day and exciting comment from every new professional we relate the incident to, so I assume they're gonna all be talking about it at plumbing conferences and parties for years) now get to duke it out over the bills. Until now, everything has been in our plumber's insurance's hands, but they just last week informed him that they contend none of it is their fault and should all be on homeowner's insurance, and so he contacted us to say it's our insurance's turn to make their case, so they sent over a guy today (assessor, one assumes) who met with our master plumber this morning to get an idea of what happened.
- Related to the above, Wax spoke to our master plumber about the 11k bill and the estate issue and he was just like 'Yeah, don't worry about it for now, we get it!' So the pressure is greatly reduced, but at the same time, we feel even more guilty about it - because he and his employees continue to be helpful, friendly, and considerate, and it's not like we want their labor to be uncompensated. But, given his statement, all we can do is encourage all possible progress on resolving the estate so we find out what our financial situation will be.
