cimoreneTotal cases in Finland, with a population of 5.5 million and a population density of 16 people per km2, were around 6700 yesterday afternoon, with 64 new cases caught between Tuesday and Wednesday (173k total tests, 1.8k yesterday). In the Turku corner of Finland to which we belong, there have been 16 deaths in total and are 2 cases in the hospital right now.
Pargas, where we live (a geographically huge municipality including several inhabited islands reachable only by ferry), has had 2 total cases out of about 18,000 residents. Cases requiring intensive care have fallen over the whole country and schools have been reopened for a couple of weeks.
I've seen 2 people besides me around town in masks, but that was three weeks ago or more. The last couple of times we were in a supermarket after 8 am was a stressful round of human Pac-Man with about half of people acting carefree again, so as a result we ordered our last groceries for pickup instead. We also saw a lot of people driving and walking on our way to the garden center a few days ago, although at the actual garden center it was outdoors and nobody was flying straight at our faces; it kind of seems like at least locally the majority of people have just... pretty much relaxed. Nothing's happened for a while, the government has perhaps inadvertently signalled that things are mostly okay by opening the schools, the two cases in Pargas were investigated and found not to lead to clusters, so contact is increasing again which gives me a headache just thinking about because this behavior times everywhere in the country is headed straight for a second wave.
Ordering groceries for curbside pickup is comparatively easy though (delivery is harder, unless you have a medical reason to need it, in which case the football team and the church in cooperation will organize it for you at no extra cost), so I guess we can do that or go in the early morning for a while. We found out, to our great amusement, that you can get curbside pickup from the liquor store as well, so we're gonna go pick up a bunch of wine later today, hahaha.
