It's been hot lately and in addition to having a floor fan in the livingroom to keep the bunny houses and play area cool and giving them cooled ceramic tiles (they don't sit on them, it's never been that hot), it was time for the Bad Bunny Haircuts.
You can't really trim angora bunny fur using clippers for humans or dogs because they have too much fur that is too fine - the ones that won't get clogged up and killed are more expensive, but bunnies are a bit nervous and have delicate skin, so it's better to trim it by hand anyway. This is rather time-consuming; it takes a few hours per bunny, even Japp, who weighs 1.1 kg with all his floof on. Rowan weighs 2.2 kg and has so much floof that I got an entire handful from the bottoms of each of his back feet.
So I use round-tipped scissors and hold each tuft away from the skin with my fingers as I snip it to ensure no bunny-wounding accidents, and it's just not practical to be meticulous enough to make an even, aesthetically pleasing trim. But the important thing is that the bunnies are more comfortable.

Date: 25 Jun 2020 04:22 am (UTC)It is Hair Removal Season for all the furry critters; I got out the Furminator and applied it vigourously to my more brushable cat this evening, removing a pile of hair the size of two fists. Tomorrow I wil catch the other one unawares and brush him, too. :D
