cimorene: Blue text reading "This Old House" over a photo of a small yellow house (this old house)

As I mentioned, I've been watching both backward and forward in This Old House, starting with the oldest season I'd previously seen, 2004, and alternating. So here's some images of the newer seasons, where I'm now up to 2017 due to skipping a few that I've rewatched a lot of times already.

It's remarkable how different the show is now and then. Aside from the differences in film quality and fashion, and the fact that the other experts take more interviewing and explaining stories now, Steve was obviously closest to Norm, and they had a comfortable double-act. Kevin obviously imprinted on Tom and has a definite tendency to follow him around like a puppy, albeit without neglecting the other stuff he's supposed to film. There are still plenty of segments co-hosted by Norm, even by Norm and Kevin, but they're not as dominant. Kevin is friendly with everybody, but he's happiest as Tom's sidekick, and that kind of chemistry is golden on camera.

i only ever watched This Old House when it was on PBS in the 1980s, before the Norm advertising kerfuffle. it's fascinating to me what an enduring formula it is.
