Mycroft didn’t expect his parents to hire such an attractive chimney sweep. And he certainly didn’t expect anything more to come of it.

This... is very weird to read, because most of my context for chimney sweeps is the sort of thing filed under the header of "child labour movement." Meanwhile, I suspect the author's understanding of chimneysweeps is limited to "watched Mary Poppins as a kid." :P

There are still chimney sweeps though, they just don't go inside the chimney now. They use brushes and things and you need them to clean your chimney to make sure it's safe to use! In fact we can't start a wood fire until we get one out because our house was unoccupied before we bought it...
