Yesterday we bought a big tin of linseed oil-based door and window/trim paint tinted to the proper color of trim white, but today when I got out the two mirror frames I already primed to paint with it I remembered you're supposed to handle the paint with gloves (borne out by the fact that it took me like two rounds of lathering with olive oil and about 10 min scrubbing with a nail brush in soapy water to get it off my hands last time)... and then I turned the house upside down looking for my latex gloves and couldn't find ANY.
I have two boxes of disposable latex gloves so I'll never be without them when I need them for using calligraphy or fountain pen ink, but because of the disorganized state of our half-moved and half-renovated house both the boxes are missing and I can't even find gloves for renovation stuff. If I'd known this I could've bought some last night! And meanwhile I guess handle the oil paint that never washes off of your hands with my hands in plastic bags???
I know the saying "They'll always invent a better idiot" (which is why you can't idiot-proof things), but it's really sad when it refers to me and it's absent-mindedness proofing. Having a spot where all my calligraphy supplies and inks go where the gloves always belong isn't enough and having TWO boxes that belong in that spot at all times isn't enough to prevent me from moving and losing them. Twice, without noticing I'd already lost the first box apparently.
I ALSO usually have two pairs of big rubber gloves, one for cleaning and one for dishes, only they've BOTH gotten holes in them recently and I forgot to put replacements on the shopping list and threw the old ones away.
No niin.
UPDATE: I found one of the boxes... but it had one single glove in it.
