Presenting Tristana
9 Apr 2021 04:31 pmWe went to fetch our new kitten, Tristana, on Wednesday evening, and she rode home inside the neck of my winter coat because she was shivering in her carrier.
She was fearless and started running around investigating everything right away, including introducing herself to Snookums a bunch even though at first he just looked spooked and ran away after they exchanged sniffs, and later in the evening he hissed at her. (This didn't perturb her at all and she kept greeting him periodically.) She also met the bunnies (and concluded "??????" I think - she did try to greet-sniff them a few times but then Rowan charged at her - which is like 'get lost' for a bunny; it isn't super aggressive or dangerous - and since then she's been giving them a wide berth, but not avoiding their side of the room or anything), learned how to use wood pellet cat litter, ate and then zonked out a whole bunch of times, fell off several things but just bounced back up like a bouncy ball, and killed a potted plant when we left her alone for a few minutes.

I just made a post on Tumblr about Tristana's arrival and first day with us and concluded by saying that they were making progress but Snookums was still suspicious/frightened of Tristana... and pretty much RIGHT after that I fed Snookums, and Tristana woke up upstairs on Wax's lap and came tumbling down the stairs mewing her tiny little beeps, and I gave her some too, of the same food but in two different bowls. They swapped bowls a few times including Tristana sticking her face in front of Snookums's and eating from 'his' bowl (the first one down), and he didn't hiss at her, and then when he jumped up onto his cushion in the sunbeam in front of the window and she followed him, he didn't hiss at her AGAIN, he just sort of side-eyed her and made that tiny little grumbling noise that's not really a growl and you can barely hear it, but he stopped when I patted them both on their heads. She proceeded to make herself comfortable leaning against his side and have the world's tiniest bath, then curl up into a tight little ball behind him and tuck her face in against his butt! They even changed positions a few times, woke up and watched some birds in the yard together and then went fully to sleep for a while. After they got up there were still no harsh words exchanged...
