Yard evolution!
7 Jul 2022 03:28 pmWax's first block of vacation days ended, and instead of doing any of the stuff I thought of doing by myself but skipped while she was free, I'm lying around groggy and brain-itchy because of low pressure that doesn't have the decency to make a proper thunderstorm. Just low-key rain and solid cloud-white overcast.
At least our new plants are getting watered.
Apart from that, our yard looks so much better now... the new tenants cleaned out the gazebo and set it up with chairs, table and grill like we always intended. They tidied all the old lady's junk into piles and Wax carried it down to the garage, and then they brought home an electric edger/weed trimmer and the 12 year old trimmed the grass in a good quarter of the yard. (He thought it was fun! Kids.) So this is the first time since we moved in without large deposits of junk all over - by the time we finished cleaning up most of MIL's stuff in 2020, the little old lady tenant had strewn the yard with her stuff.
That's all gone now, and it's pretty exciting, actually! Hence the new plants. It inspired us to want to add more vegetable beds and more shrubbery, so it's less just a flat field of overgrown grass and weeds. (There's still plenty of weeds in the grass, and at least like... 16 trees and 45 bushes that drastically need a trim, thanks to our overgrown maple and Siberian pea hedges.) We built a square cage for leaves and grass and bunny litter hay, but we still have to move the compost heap so the kids can use the swingset. I've got my eye on two trees that could hold a hammock, too.
