I accidentally uglified the thick wool boot socks that I picked up to make in order to clear my mind from picking a fair isle project.
I hadn't really planned them in advance and I made a couple of impulsive color changes which don't mesh well with the textured pattern, but by the time that was obvious, I didn't want to lose the time I'd spent. Sometimes you'd rather have ugly socks than increase your sock-knitting time by an hour or so.
Boot socks are rarely seen in their entirety, since the only time you wear them is when it's cold, and just the foot or just the top of the cuff won't be as obvious. The funny thing is that I'm now seriously considering making a second pair, non-ugly, before starting the fair isle project. There's still plenty of sock yarn. It's already warmed up enough that it's almost certain nobody will be wearing boot socks until next winter, though.
