Date: 10 Mar 2002 11:11 am (UTC)As in what do they do during the day or what are their jobs?
Their jobs can be
Legislative assistants - helping the senator with lawmaking, researching issues, policy areas. Legislative correspondents - they respond to constituents mostly.
Chief of staff who coordinates the office staff, he's more political than policy.
Then they'll have a press secretary, who is probably more active on the senate side than the house side. Then there's regular staff assistants and schedulers and interns
What they do during the day - they take a lot of meetings with interest groups and lobbyists trying to get their member on board with something. They have to go to mark ups in committees if their policy areas are the ones that their senators are on committees for. They basically spend a lot of the time work at trying to get the senator our there in a particular policy area or coordinate with the staff members of other senators to make the senators? views on an issue known.
Hope this helps. WW fanfic or government class? :)
