claire, it looks like you don't have to get nenya for me after all. i have a similar icon of the evenstar pendant, if you'd like.

we had family channukah: valerie (aunt #1, sister of daddy) gave jenny (their other sister) and grandpa (their dad) each an elaborately needleworked shirt, clearly representing hours of work. she gave my dad a puzzle, my sister a purchased shirt and me and my mother chocolate. but oh, what chocolate! *six*, three packages of lindt truffles, two of lindt chocolates and one of mint ghirardelli. ::blissed out look:: ( :-) + -_-, perhaps?) meanwhile, daddy gave me *three* delany books, though i've already read all of them (triton, tales of neveryon and nova). eee! daddy just got a cd. we're saving the better presents for him for when everyone's gone.
baby perrin--he looks nearly just like i did when i was a little tiny bit older than him (albeit about twice as large and three times as heavy...). pictures will be forthcoming eventually, i'm sure.
valerie and my mother are both artists, but my mom studied it as an undergraduate and then got an MA in art education and is now teaching middle school. valerie leans less towards woodblock and crafts and more towards watercolor and pen and ink, at which she's quite skilled. we've had watercolors of hers that she painted while i was a baby up all over ever since, well, then. one's in the bathroom--it's been there so long i hardly notice at any more. you know how that goes. but today i looked at it again and--why? it's too washed-out, it's a vertical fish, for heaven's sake, in an unassuming mat and a positively hideous frame.
there's no reason it need move to the new bathroom we're having put in to replace this one. let's put up artwork in the new bathrooms that's there because we adore it. if she ever gives us a piece that took her as long as those shirts took--well, then we could put it up, couldn't we? or daddy--who is a great fan of Cool Things and would have appreciated the shirt she gave grandpa more on its own merit (although she's grandpa's favorite child, which may lean into his appreciation of it somewhat)--could wear it.
valerie informed me at dinner, just in the course of my normal witty repartee--and as part of it--that she's just now noticed i'm not very nice. ('you just now noticed? i'm sorry.') jenny defended me ('she may try, but deep down cim just has this sweetness about her--' ahahhahaha, etc), entertainingly.
well, i wonder *why* cim could be feeling snarky. ::snap::
every time i try to gasp for air
i am smothered in despair
it's never over
there is no turning back
i've had enough
let's set her down in finland and see how it goes.
