wax thinks writing is like defecating. apparently. at least when it comes to doing it in the room with someone else--i don't quite get it. certainly it requires a certain amount of concentration, but i do it with other people in the room. if they're occupied with something else.... and we CAN'T write this novel alone. we have to have contact via aim. well, had to have, i should say. right. so what's the big deal? wax says nervously that she can look at a chunk before she shows it to me, so i presume i shouldn't read over her shoulder. i had to make a promise, and still she was doubtful.

so, how do YOU write? like amy tan, with headphones with a specific music? only in the middle of the night, only with blackberry tea and orange chocolate crumpets? only if the door is closed and locked and the curtains drawn?

well, i certainly hope she can get used to it. i don't intend to allow her to stop writing. i am not, however, proving very efficient thus far at forcing her to do shit. write shit. well, look what she's written since i got here--nothing. i just function as extra incentive to crawl into bed and watch buffy.

but this novel IS going to be finished before i leave, and [livejournal.com profile] mamahooch is going to beta it, and wax is going to write about serial killers in love and i am going to work on my sf novel. this i swear! dramatic soundtrack stuff.

she calls ME thehothouse flower. but sheherself isquite a peculiar and finicky little luscious thing.

first off, xavier/magneto. ::dies::

second, i mull over a story over and over, nitpicking over the tiniest details and how i wish to edit before finally sitting down in front of the computer and committing them to word. i prefer to be alone, with music, and a dim light on. there tends to be a lot of staring blankly and/or glaring at the computer screen.

third of all, xavier/magneto. ::dies::

For me, it depends primarily on where I am. At school, everyone knows about me and my weird bunnies and my strange writing habits, so I can be totally open about them - I've taken to curling up with a notebook in an easy chair in the campus center at times. At home, however, I have to be much more secretive, because my mom thinks (for some inexplicable reason) that I would write marvelous children's stories and therefore that's what I MUST be writing and she'll just take a quick peek over my shoulder... with tragic results for all, of course; my dad thinks I'm completely wasting my time not only with writing but with majoring in English at all unless I plan to be a teacher, so he tends to yell at me to do something "constructive". Therefore my writing at home is usually done late at night, in my own room, with the door closed and my hand cramping from the cold and the odd angle at which I'm forced to hold the pen in bed.

Sorry, that was much more long and rambling than I intended it to be :) What I really intended was to ask when you think the Masterpiece will be done - my computer's just gone into the repair place this afternoon (I'm posting this from the public library), and I know only that it will be back sometime before I have to go back to Minnesota next weekend.

not by next weekend is a fair bet.

we're without an adapter. wax is stuck in the post-coital and pre-fight place. and i may have to redo from scratch the last scene i wrote. damned laptops.
