being productive feels good, doesn't it? today i have:

driven lillian to school,
showered,
made myself lunch,
mailed a bunch of stuff,
faxed a letter,
finished completely with the finland application,
written a ficlet,
picked lillian up at aftercare,
remembered a song i wanted to download,
applied makeup and taken it off again.

not that they are *all* accomplishments; but they all feel like it.

edit: and just now refrained from snapping my mom's head off twice in a row when she was 1) insulting and 2) insulting AND boring AND argumentative (all at once).

it makes me cheery, energetic, unusually talkative, more creative, and more likely to continue doing productive things. but it's no fun being productive by yourself. you need someone who you at least don't MIND spending time with (read: no member of my immediate family qualifies) to talk to. and really having a conversation cut off is sucky. pretty much all the time. (nonsensically, it sucks less with an apology even if you have no particular cause to suspect the person is really sorry.)

if you shine a bright light at a white screen and hold up a finger in front of it, you cast a finger-shaped black shadow; but if you shine a bright light at a white screen and put an amorphous, changeable cloud of strings and opaque and transparent scraps of fabric in front of it, the shadow's going to be a messy amorphous changeable blur (and incidentally much harder than the stringy thing itself to look at). blowing the complexities of human consciousness, let alone human relationships, up to larger-than-life size in the form of the shadows and strings and varying shades of black and gray that make up a society, is messy.
