one of the star trek eps i watched last night was the deadly years, which is exceptionally slashy becasue exceptionally emotionally-charged. this is the one where the whole landing party gets exposed to radiation and starts aging so fast they're due to die in a week. kirk is forgetting everything, and the visiting paper-pusher demands he be relieved of duty; spock has a hissy fit and refuses to take over in his place.

he comes to notify the captain in a sober funk accompanied by the highly determined ex-gf who's been annoying kirk all episode (also me, with the fake boobs and strange makeup and hair, but obviously these are not the things that REALLY matter).

he tells the captain he must relieve him and gets chewed out. sample: 'the first chance you get, you stab me in the back!' somewhat disturbing. the scene ends with them nose to nose, because kirk's walked all the way up to spock's chest and has him backed up against a bit of wall. spock's not moving, only when kirk says

'out!' his eyes are closed and he shakes a little, like he's been slapped.

kirk: 'i never want to have to see you again.' spock turns his face away kind of creakily. not all at once, i mean, and slowly. but he leaves the room without answering anything. he's apparently still very lucid. he doesn't turn around on his way out of the room, but jim turns around almost immediately to watch him go.

(side note: this episode is close to the tholian web, in my mind, in terms of the quality of the acting. it's very intense, although the plot is papery-thin and ridiculous compared to that of TW. also, the effects they use to age shatner and nimoy and de kelley are beyond amusing into painful.)

You are hooking me on K/S! Without my having seen an episode in at least five years! Ack! *brain implodes from the slash-tinted memories*

in my mind, it's an established relationship episode, but it could go either way. i've long had the ambition of writing a whole set of first-time story spackles of eps.

yeah, the funny thing is that the script is not TOO slashy beyond the suggestiveness in the fact that they never walk anywhere without each other, more or less. most of the slashiness is the chemistry between nimoy and shatner. which no one seems to be able to describe for sure. was it from tension or was it because they were best friends? the world may never know.

OR they were secretly in loooooooove.

but will the shatner/nimoy i eventually produce ALSO be good to see? that's the question. i'm going to wait and post it the same day as a genuine k/s to deflect horror on-list at ASCEML ;).

out of curiosity, how much tng do you like other than imzadific?

I am a Trek whore. It's actually genetic. Third generation Trekker, born and bred. ;) I have trouble with anything that disrupts my OTP, though, it's a little too ingrained... although oddly enough I do have a Deanna/Beverly ficlet wanting writing somewhere around here. Deanna/m or Riker/f bothers the holy crap out of me, but anything else is a go.

eenteresting. you don't, like, prefer picard/c or picard/q and look warily at the other for that reason?

Not especially. Keep away from my imzadi and you can do whatever the hell else you like. ^___^

Oh wow. I had no idea "The Deadly Years" was so intense; I'll have to get my hands on it now. "The Tholian Web" is one of my favorite episode, right up there with "Amok Time" (I have an intense and unwavering love for Vulcans). The scene where Spock and McCoy watch Kirk's taped comments is just so intense and well done. If "The Deadly Years" is half as powerful, I've done myself a disservice by not watching it.

it's nowhere near as well-written, so be warned. amok time is right up there, too. i love the chemistry among the big three. any episode with a lot of tension floats my boat. and there's that bit in spock's quarters and he's sitting there not moving and jim walks sloooowly up to him until he's standing like right over him, in a very physically dominating kind of way, and spock doesn't move at all. it just crackles, like it's about to jump off the tv.
