cimorene: painting of a glowering woman pouring a thin stream of glowing green liquid from an enormous bowl (misanthropy)

-at the VERY beginning jack's goatee is in two braids. once he's chatting with the silly british sailors, it's in two, and stays that way the rest of the film.
-when elizabeth is thrown bodily into her father's cabin aboard the interceptor while the commodore goes out in the rowboats to trap the pirates and rescue will, her hair's nearly all in a loose braid. when she's rowing away ten or fifteen minutes later, it's all loose.
-[livejournal.com profile] cuddlepint claimed norrington's collar changed between agreeing to go after will and hearing the bell aboard ship and rushing back to do battle with the pirates. but i'm not sure i believe her, mind.

+daddy thought orlando bloom acted BETTER than johnny depp.
+mommy thought johnny was "cute" but "not very sexy." i indicated that she was crazy and she asked, surprised, whether i had found him sexy? i paused, not sure what to say (if i MET him i wouldn't wish to throw myself on him and lick him, i suppose, but in every OTHER sense of the word... yeah?), and she said that she had thought he was rather OBVIOUSLY playing the character as gay (with his mannersisms! she said). the implication was gay and sexy are mutually exclusive. um... eh what?

I saw that, too. But since I always tend to figure ways (possibly, "make excuses" but I am not an apologist!) for changy shifty things between what's obviously linear and..not.. (arg! BtVS/Ats characterizations, argh!) I figured that her hair just came down while she's trying to fit through the window-hole, and then shimmying down the bedsheets. :shrugs:

Yep. They were pretty! And reminded me of Gimli! Not to mention Kirkpatrick! :g: and his beardhorns making an appearance as he dressed up in Britney drag for her concert. Yes, I like positive(ly wacky) associations.

once he's chatting with the silly british sailors, it's in two,

two not!braids?

dude, BRAID. not unless it wasn't tied off with anything at the bottom, and was really, REALLY clean, because dirty hair sticks to itself a lot.

ah. what it was supposed to say was THREE. at the very beginning he has three braids, then two for the rest.

ok, I only remembered that when you mentioned it just now.

:snicker: maybe she let it down to re-inforce the metaphor of not being confined by society's standards? especially the hegemony of upper-class crustiness, being the guvnor's daughter and all, what with the prospect of arranged marriage.

by letting her hair down whilst simultaneously climbing *down* the bed sheets after escaping through a window she is fleeing, flying like Cap Jack Sparrow, yet also completing her descent into an amoral, possibly three-waying lifestyle which yet affords her the freedom of feminity, sexuality, possible masculinity (tomboyness; violence; wacking someone with a snappy corset comment) and -finally!- letting her hair loooose.

Huh. I didn't think that Cap'n Jack necessarily came off as gay. I mean you can certainly spin it that way no problem, but he wasn't "I'm an interior decorator - and those shoes are NOT okay with that tie" swishy. He was much more "I'm completely off my rocker and highly inebriated."

And yes, still reallyrealyhot. Tell your mother she's lost her mind (and that yes, gay men can be sexy - has she SEEN "Queer Eye"?).

Speaking of, I was eating a snackfood called Pirate's Booty last night... :9

AHAHAH. no, she hasn't, and i haven't either. neither one of us has really watched, well, any tv for months. i disagree about his swishyness. at least, it wasn't a parody of swishyness like she seemed to think it was, but it definitely WAS swishy. he based the character somewhat on keith richards, in a notable sort of way. and that 80s rocker gender-bending sort of sex appeal is really obvious once you know that's what you're looking at. not 'those shoes omg!', but not being afraid of looking how he wants, invading everyone's personal space, looking up through his lashes...

Yes! Cap'n Jack IS Keith Richards! (He does have that "I've slept with one of everything, mate" look about him, esp. when he's talking to Norrington.)

And, if you get the chance, you MUST watch Queer Eye. It's like those TLC redecorating shows, only with witty banter from hot gay men!
