16 Oct 2003 02:24 amseg7474: i just feel that i'd rather make the lives of america better. if that means a regime change in any country, then i'm for it
cim thing: what if it's worse for them? what if they've done nothing to deserve it? what if the government truly represents that people?
seg7474: then they should trade freely with us. they are either for us or against us
cim thing: it's not all about us.
cim thing: it's all about the usa for the usa.
seg7474: but it is
cim thing: for saudi arabia... it's all about saudi arabia.
cim thing: for turkey, it's all about turkey.
seg7474: what are you living for if not for yourself, your country, and your offspring?
what do you SAY to a question like that? what are you NOT living for?

Date: 16 Oct 2003 06:59 am (UTC)exactly. what a bizarre question in that context. is she suggesting that where you were born is the only determining factor in what's important to you, what you believe in? to an extant it's true, of course, but why would living in the usa inherently mean that one had no concern for the health and welfare of human beings not living in the usa? that's one crack-headed argument.
also, her focus is far too narrow. "regime change" in iraq will make life in the usa better. um. except for the way it pisses off most of the rest of the world and makes it harder for us to make things better for ourselves and anyone else in the future. and really, could she name one concrete way that her life is better since sadam was pushed out of power? i have doubts.
