on star wars slash:
24 Oct 2003 12:21 ami think i have a weakness for that teacher/student kink which, not surprisingly, runs rampant at the master/apprentice archive.
but oh, i think a really adult obi-wan is so much more romantic. equality is romantic as inequality never can be. i have this one facial expression in mind from aotc--with the beard, and the hair, both ridiculous, but neither without charm. adult, confident, self-contained, self-sufficient and capable in his own right.
i don't think the 'unable to function without you' thing is all that romantic, although to be sure it's real enough. apparently many people disagree with me.
mirabellawotr, i'm about to update my recs page with about fifty qui-gon/obi-wan. if you're, y'know, still interested... ::sly look::

Date: 23 Oct 2003 10:29 pm (UTC)I have quite an aversion to the master/student thing, as I recently posted about in my own journal. On the other hand, adult Obi-Wan things are Good. I really enjoyed the recent rec you posted where Qui-Gon gets turned into a pleasure slave. I agree that "unable to function without you" is not that great.

Date: 24 Oct 2003 07:46 am (UTC)entirely a matter of personal taste.
i'm willign to bet there aren't many people with that particular taste reading in that fandom, though. heh.

Date: 24 Oct 2003 11:10 am (UTC)The movies are bad, but I'm a sucker for prequel-timeline stories (I take the novels out from the library). I'll check out your recs page - I quite liked the story I mentioned, and if there are any more adult Obi-Wan stories I may well like them as well. I think what I liked about that one was the recognition that although they were still formally bound in a master/student relationship they had pretty much progressed to treating each other like equals.

Date: 24 Oct 2003 04:57 am (UTC)And you're totally right, adult Obi-Wan is so much better. I love that there are so many AUs where Qui-Gon doesn't die at the end of TPM; the fics that take place after Obi-Wan becomes a knight allow for a great exploration of that pairing with the two of them as equals.

Date: 24 Oct 2003 07:33 am (UTC)i believe that most of my new recs mention whether baby!obi appears. sometimes even if he goes too far in that direction i like the story--like i said, weakness for kink, provided he doesn't come off a child to me (ewwwww--and sometimes THAT happens even when he's supposedly adult). but it's still a flaw, imo. so usually, it goes in the description.
did i mention i'd be THRILLED if you wrote it?

Date: 24 Oct 2003 08:08 am (UTC)I actually have a fic started and sort of percolating. Yesterday I did a Q/O drabble that was exceeded in awfulness only by the "love scenes" in AOTC, but that's okay, it took me a few tries to get the hobbit voices down to where I was comfortable with them too.
Ah, the honeymoon period of a new fandom. Fun, fun.

yeah. i'm on my second honeymoon with star wars, which is lucky, because i get far pickier when i'm not in the honeymoon periods. i've been finishing stories in the past week that i wouldn't have got past the first paragraph of six months ago.
tell me moooooooooore about this fic you are writing?
