obviously the rules of being a decent human being require you to be polite to people you can't stand if they were polite to you, and especially if you have no good reason to not be able to stand them.

Um, why? I mean, if it was me, I think I'd prefer you to be honest. Of course, you can try to be honest and polite, but that's... Yeah.

well, it's weird to be honest about it, ie, "you annoy the hell out of me" when she wasn't asking. not v/ nice to change the subject to that. politeness is definitely better.
