Date: 23 Aug 2004 11:42 pm (UTC)American politics is so funny -- the way that "liberal" is used as a synonym for "left". "Far Left Liberal" is a contradiction in terms to me. Most of the active Australian far left, anyway, are authoritarian rather than liberal (ie they're pro social control and state control of property), and the conservative party are called the Liberal Party because of historical and current opposition to state control of markets and trade. Small-l liberalism is a characteristic of the centre of politics on either side and authoritarianism a characteristic of both the far left and far right. Though there are also far left and right anarchists.
Without presuming that you're interested. Ha.
