wax and i were talking.  she said most women think that human babies are cuter than cats, because i said it didn't make evolutionary sense for us to find cats cuter.  that had honestly never occurred to me.

I would say that cats are actually cuter unless it's my kid.

i have zero affinity for babies. my maternal instinct is nil. in the words of margaret cho, i am barren. i ovulate sand.

of COURSE cats are cuter.

the thing with human babies is that i also have a much better sense of when they're ugly-cute, like when they're mildly bizarre looking. (but how can something so squishy not be adorable? really.)

I think it's the whole "hairless" aspect of human babies that makes them less cute than kittens. I imagine, though, that once I had my own baby it would become the cutest thing in the world. Mom claims that this is how parents tollerate the general obnoxiousness of squalling kids - it's really annoying, unless the kid is YOURS.

i second the above comment. how can it be cute if it's not fuzzy?? fuzzy wins every time, man.

wax also subscribes to this theory. of course cats are smaller, ie less fat in limbs etc, than babies. that could be a factor. the weeness is a big aspect.
