why the fuck to people start and join fanlistings?

'the fuck' = expression of ... EXTREME nature of confusion.  please, explain it to me.  i know what they are and their stated purpose, so that isn't what i'm looking for.  but like, what makes the connection between 'i like this idea' and the fanlist-joining?  it's not like a fanCLUB.  the friendship of russel and paul is a great thing, but we're STILL all warmfuzzying about it separately, y'know?

Actually, that's another thing. You don't actually join anything, nothing's expected of you, and you aren't expected to do anything or interact with anyone else. It's almost an anti-club.

I am happy, for example, to put a little Dragnet fanlisting icon on my Dragnet icon page. Even something as uninvolving as lurking on a Dragnet mailing list, assuming any exist, would be a different proposition. ;)
