oh god.  i am having a HUGE unstoppable tremendous craving for salt and vinegar potato chips, which they don't even HAVE anywhere in finland.

:whimper:

is this a british flavor idea?  somehow i get the idea that it is.  could one achieve the affect by pouring, say, salad vinegar on a pile of potato chips and dousing it with salt?  not that i have salad vinegar but it's at least obtainable.

my tongue is, like, TINGLING the way it does when you crave food.  auuuuuuuuuugh.

it will totally work, yes. except the real proper taste is malt vinegar (the british thing). first time i tried it it was with wib^ne vinegar, and it's good too but tastes different. good luck!

i only have sweets and stuff. *still damning you to hell*

could try pickles, green olives, salted tomatoes, something with lime or lemon and salt? rice with soy sauce? i'm sorry. i'm trying to come up with a substitute myself.

the american pre-flavored stuff aren't really made with vinegar at all, though. lay's, anyway, are made with citric acid. and various other kinds of food acids.

rice with soy sauce! that's what *i* do when I crave salt, yep. cos i use kikkoman sauce, and yes, yum. green olives and pickles will do for the vinegary side...

my glands have started producing saliva just *reading* your comment. argh!!

(i haven't been able to find proper salty, not at all sweet dill pickles here. wax doesn't know what they're called and i've tried two kinds and sorta given up.)

they didn't used to here, it's just a trial period to see if they should. it's not even an official change to the law yet "and apparently interest is waning."
