so the scenario is that you go to meet the professor, "bring an object, and describe it in detail." on video. i have two objects in consideration. one is one of those little wadded up disks of washcloth that "magically" expands in warm water; the other is a stained-glass nightlight made for me by my favorite aunt, in the shape of a rather elegant little ornamental fish.
presumably the idea is to demonstrate proficiency in japanese and use as many structures as possible. now, with the washcloth, it would be "it looks like a little round box. it is hard and dense. but i will put warm water on it. now it is thin and flat. it is a washcloth. washcloths should be soft. it is not very soft. it is too thin..." (recall that i can't say v/ many things in japanese. in fact, i'd have to ask for some of those constructions.) the nightlight has multiple colors as well as some body parts, and a lot of interesting shapes. as an added bonus i can talk about my aunt. will i lose points for talking about the aunt instead of the object? "describe in detail"--it sounds like they want color and size and shape words only.
i'm leaning towards the light, actually, now.
