i'm caught between a rather upbeat set of mental chemicals at the moment (although i slept too long last night and my eyes are kinda gummy) and a couple of valid real-life causes for depression that i can't do anything about.  so the sun is out at LAST after what has been a very long week, my mind is alert and pretty calm, but i can't stop thinking about these things that distress me.  when i feel like this, they make me more frustrated than sad.

but it's better than feeling depressed for no reason.

and also, we could really use a dust-buster.

ps: i've been reading picard/q fic again and thinking about how none of it ever manages to be totally believable. a lot of fun IMO, but never entirely convincing. why do you think that is?

Because if you stop to think about it for even a moment, you know that Q could/would reorder Picard's mind to make him do whatever, and sees Picard as a rather amusing game of checkers, not even close to chess. Perhaps a rather nice pet dog.

http://hjc.akicif.net/AGoodJob.html - Jane Carnell's story isn't about Q so much as Picard, but it has a Q who acts like the described Q of the TNG universe would. Also, it's one of those mindblowing character-driven stories that just - so damn good.

Um. As to the rest - bask in sunlight when you can and write lists of things that are good and wrong and need to be done and so forth. It's easier once it's on paper.

hmm, i haven't tried lists much lately. maybe that would help.

thanks for that and the rec--i'll save it for when i have a chunk of time all at once. or maybe i'll start right now

as for q's attitude to picard, maybe i can buy the nice pet dog thing, but the checkers--it just doesn't make sense. because he acts like he's contemptuous and bored, but he keeps coming back and ... *engaging* with them. it's so weird for an omnipotent entity to come to care about what happens to them, or at least picard (which he seems to do). ...my point is there's plenty of grounds for a slashy hypothesis there, but nobody bothers to hang on to characterisation. i mean, you could (theoretically) strand q without his powers or his memory without also turning him into a limp noodle. or a weepy *girl*.
