internet death

well, the internet went down late last night and stayed down through about half an hour of my constant attempts to restart the computer, the network, and the modem in various ways. it's still down twelve hours later. we're not sure what the problem is at this point, except since our home network is down too, it isn't the provider. and given how much i've fiddled with the damn cables it's not those either. did our modem just spontaneously give up the ghost? i guess we'll find out before i get to post this.
--no, no news; we got out the old switch and hooked ourselves back into the university network, which means much faster transfers but no bit torrents.
wow was that stressful. i feel like i should have the shakes or something--and i took everything off the counter and out from under the sink this morning in my anxiety, and scrubbed it all with orange-scented mr muscle. (this isn't wasted effort, since now it is much less gross; it's just really, really out of character for me.)
