cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (father figure)

this is sort of kind of a meme (from [livejournal.com profile] crantz), but the question arrested my attention because i had to actually think about it.  i came up, in the end, with nine.

1. nsync (jan 2001 - early 2002): my gateway to fandom;  for a couple of years the thought of it gave me hives.  but i still have a veeeery few friends from there.  hi [livejournal.com profile] silviakundera, hi [livejournal.com profile] thelionforreal!

2. star trek (march 2001 - early 2002):  i was active on ASCEML, the main mailing list, for only about a year, but i didn't completely throw up my hands in disgust with the fandom as a whole until early 2003.

3. lord of the rings (december 2001 - early 2003): i started on lotr_slash and migrated to livejournal.  there are only a couple from this fandom that i still have contact with, but it brought me some of my most valued relationships.

4. LOTR RPS (january 2002 - early 2003 i was more or less active reading/writing): this was the first fandom i got really really active in, both in mailing lists and on lj. in fact, i still have affection for the characters, and i still read it pretty regularly from recs.  and i still have some people i met there around.

5. harry potter (late 2001 - ?): i've written a few things, and at times i followed a couple of communities, but i was never really *in* this fandom and never very active.  however, i did interact with some people through it.
bonus: fandom wank (summer 2002 - ?):  at least provisionally a fandom and a lot more fun than most of them, this one has, over the years, fulfilled an entirely disproportionate number of my fandom social needs.  even after it started to suck, then started to suck a lot, and finally came to suck unbearably, it continued to fulfill them through the Cabal That Rules Fandom [Wank].  which, hey, the fact that we have one kind of proves that we're a fandom once and for all, i guess.

6. tim roth/gary oldman (early 2004 - ?): i'd never heard much of anything about it before i founded [livejournal.com profile] rosnguil with [livejournal.com profile] wolfsage.  r&g fiction is almost non-existent and there's not really a community/fandom as such. i only know of three pieces of the rps written by anyone other than myself, but i intend to keep writing it and i know a very small number of people who will keep reading it... so. *shrug*

7. sherlock holmes (december 2003 - ?): the fandom's pretty tiny and quiet. i've written two stories and still intend, in an open-ended way, to write more in the future.  and i've participated slightly on [livejournal.com profile] cox_and_co.

8. good omens (late 2003 - summer 2005): my sole contribution to this fandom was a remix of [livejournal.com profile] daegaer's "ordinary people", but that remix got more feedback than i'd gotten on any single thing since early LOTR RPS, when i accumulated a small amount of name recognition.  i interacted with other people in this fandom a fair amount, for me, and acquired a couple of lj friends i've still kept, even though the levels of cringe-worthiness in the fandom finally drove me out.

9. stargate atlantis (june 2005 - ?): my current main squeeze. i haven't been this into a fandom since LOTR RPS. there's the thirst to read and talk about it all the time and to participate in the community. i do lots of fandom-related socialising here, i went on a big friending spree... and it's lovely. this fandom is big, active, based on still-developing canon, and full of sub-groups and drama.

in other news, starting now i have three weeks of classes only on tuesday and thursday.  here's hoping i will manage to use the time to pack/clean/move and read the textbooks from idéer och ideologier i still haven't been examined on.  as opposed to, you know, what i usually do.
