at least i've finally accomplished one of my giant ambitious goals for the christmas break:  teaching myself basic css and redoing cimorene.net with it.  there's a very simple new layout and a favicon.  and also, an update to my recs page, because i wanted to get the last several months' worth out of the way before the various christmas stories (whenever i get done with those).

[latest recs]
35 stargate: atlantis [all stargate recs]
7 due south [all due south recs]
9 lotr rps [all lotr rps recs]
3 good omens [all good omens recs]
2 harry potter [all harry potter recs]
6 matt damon/ben affleck [miscellaneous recs]
4 csi: new york
2 sherlock holmes

I noticed the layout yesterday (or early this morning 3 am to be precise). It's simple, which I really like; I can't stand overly ornate and fussy layouts.

Also omg yay for new CSI:NY and Sherlock Holmes recs! *trots off to read*

i'm afraid you'll already have read those csi:ny ones. but if you haven't read professor pangea's imagey telegraph thing you should. even though it's gen unless you squint (although canon, too, goes from gen to slash if you squint, a lot of the time...).

You were right, I had already read all the CSI:NY ones. Oh well.

I did actually read Sub Rosa, and it was very very very good. And it does goes gen to slash if you squint. But yeah, like you said, so does canon.

In other news: OMG CIM am almost through season one of ST: TOS and omg Kirk and Spock and they are so slashy & shiny omg and I am watching what's it, the one episode with the Klingons and I'm not done because mom has taken over the TV and kicked me off but omg, there is is one scene where the Klingon dude is threatening Kirk with becoming a vegetable with his mindsifter or whatever, and Kirk is all glower/smirk do-your-worst and then Klingon guy starts threatening to dissect Spock and you see the smile disappear and Jim is aaaaaall business, he is all I WILL kick your ass if you touch my Vulcan and aaaaah, siiiiigh, so much to squee about. Although I try not to squee too loud when my dad is sitting next to me watching.

Anyway, sorry about the rambling but I just had to squee at someone.

i KNOW. he's like that all the time though! they both are! he does it in "the squire of gothos" too, when trelane acts like he's going to shoot spock.

also your mother is blasphemous. one CANNOT stop in the middle of "errand of mercy"! it's one of the cutest, crackiest and best episodes ever as well as one of the best plots!

I find it telling that Trelane knows to threaten Spock to get at Jim. Like, he knows threatening Jim won't get him anywhere, but it's pretty obvious that Spock means so much to Jim that he'll do anything to keep him safe, even if it's back down.

ALSO OMG I KNOW. SHE DID IT AGAIN TODAY. ONLY THIS TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF "CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER".

It's very pretty...but using OS X Tiger and Safari, the recs themselves aren't showing for me. Wah!

according to the css articles and tutorials and things i read, safari is usually one of the more 'safe' browsers after mozilla and opera, so that's rather strange, but i can't imagine where to start finding out what's wrong with it. i'll have to wait until someone knowledgeable comes back, i guess.

well, according to isilya, who also uses osx and safari although it's possible her version is later, the text showed up with no problem, although the layout was wrong. but i've fixed that now and according to her it now looks 'perfect'.

oh, the new design is lovely! although for some reason it's not scrolling for me. i'm at work, so it's internet explorer; i did a quick code check, but i don't know css, so i'm not quite sure if it's my computer or the site itself. :(

well, it's internet explorer, actually; but it's not your computer, that's what the latest ie for windows does to it. i'm too much of a css novice to fiddle with the extremely complicated and weird code-arounds you apparently have to do, from all the articles i read, in order to accomodate ie's noncompliance. so, like, i just gave up. but it's fine in safari for osx as well as mozilla and opera, so you should be able to read it at home.

although really--ie? no workplace should use it. it's dangerous and potentially costly for them since it's much more likely to burden their computers with spyware and viruses and eventually break them. an organisation counted the number of potentially unsafe days of each browser (IE hit 98% in 2004. That means on only 2% of days in 2004 were there no publicly known remote execution exploits for IE) (http://www.livejournal.com/users/girl_clone/325486.html).

you know, we were using mozilla but it was conflicting with our network downloading stuff... and stuff. so, unfortunately, we're back with ie. my poor home computer is broken, but i'll be sure to check it out when i've gotten everything fixed up. :)

I was busy updating my rec site, noticed the links to your site & fics had changed, and came across the scrolling problem myself. So I decided to check your journal and yay, using mozilla did the trick for me. I'll put the info up along with the recs. Thanks :D

it changed the code and it works in my ie for windows now, though--the proportions are messed up but the scrollbar is there. there's a later entry on the subject, too, but when i was researching the bug i found out that you can get the hidden content with the down arrow when there's no scrollbar.
