cimorene: SGA's Sheppard and McKay, two men standing in an overgrown sunlit field (pastoral)

okay, so i've spent most of my day today, hours and hours, trying to battle browser bugs for my new css layout.  i got it to function in ie/win (that is, not CORRECTLY, but there are now scrollbars so the content isn't actually hidden)(although, note for anyone who against all reason and logic uses ie:  you can see the rest of the text by using the down arrow when the scrollbar is missing).  i DIDN'T manage to fix the new bug in opera that showed up when, at [livejournal.com profile] isilya's wise suggestion, i switched from using float:left and float:right to giving the left column a fixed width and absolute-positioning the right column a specific distance from the left edge of the page.  both ie and opera are completely off their rockers with the horizontal scrollbars (although opera has at least resized the CONTENT correctly to fit on the screen, and the scrollbar just leads to a pointless white chunk that it has stuck on the right side of the layout).  there's not a flaw in the css--i put it through the w3c css validator as well as going over it with a fine-tooth comb despite the fact that the code is ridiculously simple.  when the container of the page is set to width=100%, that's it.  there's no single element wider than the display and the width is set at 100, so nothing should be sticking out like that.

so i've stopped.  if i ignore the scrollbar, it looks okay in my opera; and as long as the content is available in ie, whatever.  meanwhile, wax made a sugar cake with some kind of melted caramel and nuts on top that's quite good.  oh, and we finally saw pride & prejudice and both loved it.  so now i intend to relax!  although there's no champagne or anything.  just tequila, but no limes or lemons.  well, and kahlua and milk, but after the cake i don't so much feel like having that.

Oh man, I can't even do HTML, let alone CSS. So. You own me at life.

Also you are listening to Franz Ferdinand! Hart. Have you heard anything from their new CD? I have them covering Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?" Worth it, even if you don't like Gwen, to hear Alex snarl, "Take a chance you stupid ho."

wax gets the franz ferdinand and i just copy the directories from her hard drive. i don't think she has the new one, though, cause there have been no rashes of extra listening...

Well, the new one is not that new - came out in October. I only have it on CD, but I have a load of B-sides on my computer, if you want those?

Franz Ferdinand - Get Away (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2HYSB8XQ8ORQO1LBTK6BYNZMI2). A b-side from one of their singles, I'm not sure which; I'm thinking "Walk Away" for some reason. Very catchy and bouncy.

Franz Ferdinand - What You Waiting For (Gwen Stefani cover) (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2A3NDQ1KOSHF614OJ7KBLJCVQB). This song is sex. Much better than the original, I think. I am known to be a bit biased though. ;)

Franz Ferdinand - All For You, Sophia (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1IMQY2R4VQ6V50KHEEOGSF34FL). A song about the actual assasination of the actual Archduke Franz Ferdinand!

Franz Ferdinand - Get Up And Use Me (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0J7O5O6K5PFMF2OS1M0CNCT9FE). A cover of the Fire Engines song of the same name. The bass gets me every time. Mmm.

Franz Ferdinand - Your Diary (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=28O6IVMG2Y3FV24C91SILT9UXN). A B-side from their "The Fallen" single, if I'm not mistaken. I have an older live version which I like better, because it's more energy-packed and frantic. They never play this song live and it makes me sad because it's one of my faves.

Franz Ferdinand - Van Tango (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3JXO4IMMZTG233N6UH1ZTY1ULQ). This one sort of grows on you. It's kind of like 'Get Away' a bit. Nick sings, and his voice is a bit of an acquired taste. Once you do get into it, though, it's the catchiest thing.

Franz Ferdinand - Can't Stop Feeling (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1FJB57GCJ6DPI2QGYIWUAJYGXM). A demo for a song that never got released. This one has a 'dying-on-the-disco-floor' feel but it's still danceable, you know? Sort of weird. I really like it, for some reason. The drumming, I suspect.

Franz Ferdinand - Mis-Shapes (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0DVZCLMUN7Q0B3AEN96VQQH7JG). A cover of Pulp, I think. A novelty, because in this song, Bob sings! Bob never sings. Even when people scream at him onstage to sing, and reach out to him with adoring hands, he only gives an enigmatic smiles and thrusts his bass forward. The tease. I also think it's adorable how Alex can't hit the high notes properly.

Franz Ferdinand - Shopping For Blood (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2KZYM0LH1N7BP2986TWFMO2N1F). Something about being the new Scottish gentry. I have no idea what it means.

Franz Ferdinand - Love And Destroy (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=23DC1AKH8J65C1EFOHZEB9VFL5). Based on "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov. I tried reading it. It is the weirdest book ever.

Franz Ferdinand - Don't Start (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2XF3W7SH9V34M238NXVEEGD2O2). Another one of my favourites. I just really, really adore this one.

And something actually from their new CD:

Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0AII8BBGJOWMH2PO19MFSQH2W1). The title track from their new CD. It's freaking awesome. When Alex sings "Get up, get up" you can't help but.

Aaaaaaaaaand I'm done. :D Sorry about the length of that, I get all rambly and love and whee about Franz, so. Feel free to whack me with a stick and tell me to shut it if I start getting all blahblahblah and such.

Hahaha, my best friend had a problem too, once. It's pretty easy. Alex is the lead singer, Nick is lead guitar - he's the chiseled-looking one with the blue eyes. Paul is the drummer, he has the pouty mouth and crooked teeth and he is so skinny you could fold him in half and stick him in your back pocket. Bob is the bassist. Bob never sings and he is the trademark stoic one, although lately his stage moves seem to have expanded. Nick sings sometimes - Van Tango, Tell Her Tonight and Get Away. Mostly he does backup. Paul sang once that I can recall - on the German version of Tell Her Tonight. He plays guitar sometimes if Andy takes drums.

Alex and Nick have regular dual guitar sexoffs, where they see who can out-sex the other. Sometimes Alex likes to go down on Bob's bass - I am not even making this up, it happened at the concert I went to.

They like playing it up for the slash fans (they're all quite aware of slash and slash fic. There was an article about it once. Alex doesn't mind, apparently, so, uh, yay!). Once Alex gave a shoutout to the fic community. He is a tease.

HAHA I'M RAMBLING AGAIN.
