cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (bored now)

1.  i wish i could download old trading spaces (but according to torrentspy, isohunt, and mininova1, i can't).  now, that was good reality tv.  project runway is a million times better in terms of plot and stuff and omg just postthefuckingtorrentalready, but i kind of think interior design is cooler than fashion design.
1b. okay, though, reality tv about model wannabes can be very funny in amid all the facepalming, because they're so dumb. who knew that even the best random methods could pick out four american high school graduates who not only had never heard of bollywood ("i guess it's like hollywood or something!") but didn't know what punk was, let alone a single person obsessed with fashion who has no idea how to look preppy?

2. wax did get the time2 so we are going to paris june 15-20.  also, munich june 20-23, but i don't know much about germany and have never especially wanted to go there so am less excited (i was rooting for england or italy).  i think my parents want to because they have an exchange student from there at the moment, and they want to hang out with her parents, which is fine with me.  i hear there are picturesque little villages or something.

3. we got an email from stockmann that temeraire is waiting in akademiska bokhandeln.  however, wax plans to sleep all day again and it's snowing out (and -9 again, asd#@;hk!g&kl!3).  i'm in the middle of a rather hard-sf post-apocalyptic novel, queen city jazz by kathleen ann goonan, and i'm taking it a bit slowly so i can probably wait to pick up temeraire until wax's next weekday off.

4.  the last care package from my parents contained, among other things, a kind of third world techniques/old-world techniques top that reminded me of santino.  it would only be at best a santino knock-off, because it's quite symmetrical and only has a few strings of glittery beads actually hanging off of it, and it is in fact (while not necessarily basic) (thank you, daniel v) from j.c. penney4.  but in light of the santino effect and the continuing search for an appropriate hand-knotted wedding tux, i tried to photograph it for the edification of [livejournal.com profile] thelionforreal and other interested parties.  not that it would ever be a tux, but i kind of envisioned santino's waistcoat like this but with more ruffly bits.  nb: no one in my family knows i like project runway.

5. some of you have heard me raving about the chenille socks my parents have been sending.  if you have never worn furry chenille socks, i urge you to run out and purchase some at once.  the latest pair have brilliant red and white stripes and penguins on them.  penguins!

1. don't you hate the 'meet girls from your area' ads at the torrent sites?  incredibly tacky and gross.  they're usually half-dressed at best and just... ew.

2. her boss's reaction was "oh, thank god", apparently, because nobody else on her line wants off in june.  why? it is too fucking cold in finland, in june, to have your summer vacation.  catch that?  have it again:  june in finland is too fucking cold for summer vacation.

3. i'm dying for an actual hot bath.  saunas ≠ the same thing.

4.  i SO want a tshirt that says "JC Penney basic".  4b. i uploaded a lot of cropped/lightened/sharpened pr icon bases for [livejournal.com profile] emmuzka last night.  i make no guarantees as to their overall quality, cause they're kind of from the first stage of icon-making before i decide which ones i want to fiddle with, but anyone can have one.

wow, was crochet in back then? i don't remember 94 all that clearly. oh! because when i was in sixth grade we didn't have money for new clothes. it was, hmmm, i remember chenille sweaters and "indian-like" belts. and black jeans. it was right before the breakout of wide-leg jeans.

and note how it's still too big for me. which is why i never have actually bought things at jc penney for myself, really. but i guess they were sale-shopping and thought it would be worth it either way.

Re: torrents, Ithe people who are posting The OC torrets over at http://thepiratebay.org are consistently failing to seed them. So they just sit there, undownloadable. Idiots.

not surprised that that happens with old torrents--the creators can't be expected to seed indefinitely. but i always go to the pirate bay last.

RE Munich: The nearest thing we have to picturesque little villages is actually Bad Tölz, I think, which is at least an hour and a half by car from Munich, and also not all that little, and a lot less picturesque in summer than it is in winter. But it will probably actually be warm and sunny in June, and there are lots of beautiful lakes all around, so it is a nice place to spend a summer vacation. I'm really bad at remembering any great sights, though, although the tourists I know tell me there are lots, so the only thing I can recommend is the castle Neuschwanstein, and the botanical garden, which are both pretty stunning in summer.

well, it's my parents who have described their actual destination, and their exchange student's hometown, that way. i don't know where it is, but i guess it makes them happy.
