this is wax's seventh day without a computer.  she was supposed to pick up the components yesterday, and the guy gave her the time they were due to be delivered to the shop.  so we went by then after running some errands, and they weren't there.  he said he'd call when they arrived so instead of going home we trudged around and finally sat down to read in the children's library for hours.  it was cold and my toes and fingers went numb and then his shop closed and he never called.  wax has been frustrated and occasionally restless, rather distressingly.

although the days are getting longer again, i'm finding this part of the year, when the light is back but it's still very cold, more difficult to get through than the weeks right around the solstice.  i feel both restless, wanting more classes to go to (or just things to do), and oppressed by the necessities of the few things i actually have to do, like go out at 8 am twice a week, and write a paper sometime in the near future.

last year i was baffled to find myself much more depressed in the spring than the winter, but wax says it's a known phenomenon with its own name in swedish, vårtrötthet (which actually means spring tiredness, but i think i understand the nuance).  last year i had a rush of inspiration and started writing almost feverishly in march, something that lifted my spirits remarkably while it lasted.  i wonder if that will happen again too.

*grin*

crack has definitely been the unrelievedly cheery aspect of my weeks lately!

i'm sounding especially disgruntled at the moment because it's -20 C out and i had to get up at 6:00 in order to go to four hours' worth of lectures this morning.

but, actually, i got lucky. i was all wrong about the temperature. it rose overnight, so it was only about -9, in fact.

i listened to the 209 podcast three times today. i keep becoming more and more enchanted with tim. i love how he says "it was just... BEYOND THE PALE!" and his embarrassed little "out to red lobster... well, apparently andrae and i are a couple." and also when he says tiff and um. oh, also? when he talks about kara and says how worried he is that the dress wasn't going to come off. AHAHAHAHAHAHAH. also, he's like a big papa. and he wanted to yell at the judges! he's a SUCKER FOR TOPIARY (...) and andrae had him seduced.
