that most mtf transsexuals' eyebrows are naturally more arched than the male norm (and closer to the feminine) because the eyebrows are so closely connected to the soul.

ah, i love the smell of mispunctuated pseudoscientific spiritual mumbo-jumbo in the afternoon.

A girl in my A-level college Biology class once asserted that all lesbians have a slight hearing defect in their right ear.

(The teacher, goddess bless her, didn't take a breath before answering that yes, that's a rumour circulated by men who think we don't hear them trying it on, to preserve their egos. *snerk*)

Nonono, yes it's true, it's like how you can tell a lesbian by the fact that her ring finger is longer than her forefinger. No, really, truly.

That one had all my friends waving their hands around and then all of us sadly agreeing that there was only one true lesbian amongst us and the rest of us should stop fooling ourselves and go shag men.

yeah, that. i'm a marginal lesbian and [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism is much more of one. and hey, she also has straighter eyebrows! so it must all be true!

it's more the "reason" i object to than the spurious link. i'm sure it's completely made up, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that there could be some statistical correlation of that kind. they do find that for example a certain tiny bit of the brain in mtfs is closer to the size of that bit in women than the size of that bit in gender-role-conforming men. it's the asserted proximity of eyebrows to souls that cracks me up.

Then you might like this regarding Annie Proulx's catchy "stemming the rose" euphemism.

(small spoiler for Brokeback Mountain)

"Stemming the Rose" is a euphemism for "struggling against love". In the movie "Brokeback Mountain", Jack and Ennis were hired to protect the sheep from wolves.... ie... to _stem_ the wolf attacks. Instead of stemming the wolf attacks, they stemmed the rose... which meant that they were battling against homosexual desires. Essentially, it was used to equate _being overtaken by same-sex-attraction_ to _being overtaken by a wolf attack_ .... and was used as a device to show that the boss saw them as being attacked by love.
