roundaboutly and completely by chance. i mean, i met bookshop through hp and fandom wank and it took a long time before curiosity made me follow one of her recs. so. yeah.

but i've never been in a japanese fandom before at all. however, this does make me miss japan and studying japanese.

i love that icon! kimochi is feeling? there are other words for feeling, though, aren't there? i know the particles of course--even if i don't have the fine points of when to use 'ga' for something that would be a DO in english.

Kimochi is one way to say feeling; Ki and kibun are a couple of others. Kimochi's generally the standard one, though; kibun tends to be a more physical feeling (from what I understand) and ki is very general and conceptual.

wa/ga is tricky, but I'm finally (after five years of study e_e) getting the hang of them.

listening to jpop lyrics is going to push me into looking at japanese again. i'm going to make my sister mail me my kanji and kana books and dictionary, because just watching the tenipuri themesongs with the romaji and the translations side-by-side drives me nuts when i can't figure out exactly which part of the sentence is which word.

can 'itai' mean 'feel' as well as 'hurt'?

AND TELLS HIM TO GET DATA ON HIM AND I CAN'T BELIEVE HE DID THAT. he like NEVER TALKS. and suddenly he öaskldjföaskldöfakls suddenly aöslkdf!!! imitating ryoma and ödklfjaösl!!!

and somehow it seems like the most romantic thing ever to me that he treats himself to a game with ryoma before the big match. and keeps him on the bench there. like. he's being... selfish. he's like, cleansing his palate with ryoma before the other game. BECAUSE RYOMA IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS.

YES YES YES oh god yes. I love Tezuka in the warmup match so much. It seems really clear to me that Ryoma is the only one who can participate in this particular warm up with Tezuka because the stakes in this match are so high, and because Tezuka wants Ryoma's focus to be on him and only him right from the start. Like, he doesn't want anything to come between him and Ryoma's reception of this match, so right from the beginning he makes it personal, he makes it all about the two of them. BECAUSE IT IS.

But really more than for Ryoma's sake I love that you're absolutely right - Tezuka is being completely self-indulgent here. It's totally, totally the one pleasure Tezuka will allow himself before this match, to play Ryoma here. It's deliberate, it's selfish, it's wonderful. Tezuka is deliberately using Ryoma to work off the tension before the match. He's using his fixation on Ryoma to help him drown out everything else and just focus on the joy that he gets from playing tennis because Ryoma brings that to him automatically, just by being himself. He's using Ryoma to help him relax and limber up emotionally. He's letting Ryoma's exuberance take over.
