short addendum to things i want:
26 Jul 2002 05:20 amgot the new sf bookclub circular today with a special ya insert. all 4 harry potter in hardback for $35 (not for me, as i have british editions, but it still makes me whimper). all four mary poppins for the same. diana wynne jones's howl's moving castle and the castle in the air (two of my favorites. CLASSICS. and she's so much better than rowling) for $20. the entire harper hall trilogy by mccaffrey (the only good ones in the pern series excepting the white dragon: dragonsong, dragonsinger and dragondrums), in an omnibus, for $13. all in hardback. all.
...i don't have harper hall or the castle in the air. not my own copies, anyway.

woke up just before five am and was possessed to read a ds story from ma chere's pickled recs page over at waxworld. was left somewhat dissatisfied, slept some more, woke up and consumed two eggs and two slices of toast and all my morning pills. bought dog food. fed dogs and cat and cleaned up cat mess and am now on my way to my not-sister's. she teaches english at one of those "not-segregated" alabama schools where everyone who is white in the county goes to private school and everyone who is black does not, and they get even less funding than we get, which is even less than they get in, oh, say, finland, no matter what certain residents thereof may tell you.
by 'on my way to my not-sister's' i mean 'updating my journal from bev and dave's computer, with vague thoughts of leaving soon.'
i have finished my story. and several people are reading it. and i have found no less than three markets to which to submit it. but it hasn't been edited, and my k'salamander is ill, and has been given a small hyperactive puppy to train on top of this. what's a few more weeks on top of a sixteen week response time, right? right. keep telling yourself that.
it's a nice morning despite the lack of incipient or actual rainstorms, and not very hot yet. in aliceville i'm going to paint cabinets and get supremely messy. then i'm going to come home and paint my toenails.
and however long it takes for mail to arrive from pennsylvania is how long i have to wait until i get some due south tapes of my beta chick's favorite slashy episodes.
have i said 'eee' yet today?
eee!

arrogant presumption
26 Jul 2002 08:47 pmi'm nearly too tired to bitch properly about this. also, a side-effect of feeling properly loved and being sleepily pliant: i'm not really able to get as offended as i probably should be. right. story.
so i am bev and dave's housesitter, but they've also been in contact with some neighbors who were supposed to let the plumbers in for them during the day while i was out. as they're really not paying me enough to stay there all day long. ahem. anyway, but i've talked to them before: the wife contacted insurance, the husband came over and took pictures of the damage to the floor. so today when i was out of town he let the plumber in and was there.
i get there and he's there, and comes around from the dogs and says, surprised, 'oh, hi. i didn't know what was going on with the dogs, so i fed them.' i'm like, 'uh.' and he's talking about the cat. okay. so we go inside, and i crawl under the door to the garage--while he was there, the plumber broke the garage door so it won't open more than three feet. he goes in the back. while i'm giving the cat his insulin shot the guy finds a cat mess. he tells me. before i can clean it up, he picks it up with magazine paper, smearing it into the (white) carpet further. i'm done giving the cat his shot; i go to do the kitty litter and feed him.
( edit: sorry for length. rest of story here. it just gets better. )
