i slept for almost eleven hours, so i guess it's not too surprising i can't remember my dreams. i feel wonderfully rested, though! which is a very good thing, since it's shaping up to be a bad day. i think i'm required to go by the philosophy office if i ever want to find out what my grade was on that logic exam, and i haven't done any of the four-point bits of homework in there at all (a minor thing of suckiness, but i can still get a high b without turning in any of them, the way the course is set up. so!).

i have an appointment with the iatrist shrink at 8:30 am tomorrow which i must not forget. maybe daddy will email me (::hopeful look::).

21 yrs ago this week, delta upsilon delta's (dud) innocent fun turned rowdy when, as the student reported, things 'got a little out of hand.' though the fraternity blamed the rowdiness on townies and umass students, four fraternity members were arrested by town police officers. ...

the list of objects... collected [from the frat members] included valentine silverware, flags from the choir room in amrs music building, a dog belonging to one of the deans, a dumpster, rugs, paintings, two stuffed roosters from the biology building and a pvta [Pioneer Valley Transit Authority] bus.

town police became involved when students were seen driving across the greens of the amherst golf club, in hopes of absconding with flags from the holes, the student reported.

writing exercise #1: pacing

a loose fantasy tightly-written set halfway on devon's front porch and halfway in the front hall of my great aunt and uncle's house in washington, dc.

under the doorframe, she paused, turning to look over her shoulder with some hesitancy. she was still two steps form her shoes lying askew in the entryway, two more from the dark-paned door. movement shivered in the air around us, and i wondered if i should follow. the meter between us could have been a chasm or a deep river. a door banged upstairs and a plume of smoke wound, intertwined with laughter, from the open door of the kitchen in the time it took me to open my mouth. ( a smile, with eyes sparkling. )

exercise #2: a meditation on cliché featuring a gothlet

once she heard someone say that light can't exist without dark. she thought it sounded cool. going through the motions of hating pretty people, perfect days and her mother's well-meaning gestures (coffee, prom dress, stereo) is the easy part. going up stairs she trails her fingers on the bannister or the wall in the wide stairwell--there is never any dust--and closes her bedroom door, ( as if this can prevent her mother from coming in. )
