twisters!

there were two tornadoes in my county tonight, although i don't think either touched down and did any real damage. one stayed mostly north of the city and one apparently moved from south to north following a central line and going quite near us. we were confined to the bathroom--as the only interior room with no windows in the apartment--for hours this evening, and i finally decided arbitrarily that danger was past and went to lie in bed instead sometime before nine. i've probably slept more than fourteen of the past twenty-four hours.

watched american beauty for only the second time ever--the first was when i saw it in theaters. still a good movie. shame about the ending, which this time seemed a liiiiittle mushy and weird, when on first viewing it was hugely dramatic and rather brilliant.

and i picked up a book that writer!andy (that is to say, not big gay andy) gave us. started to read it. the white queen. i'm suspicious, in general, of cyberpunk written before the internet really got off the ground, but so far it hasn't alienated me.

valentine's day

amazing! startling. this random person (interim32?) quoted in metaquotes has so nearly said how i've been feeling about love lately.

Love, to me, doesn't guarantee or even involve trying to make another person happy. It's about sharing one life and feeling comfortable and inspired in their presence. It's the other person's job to be happy--with or without me. But a relationship is so much more enjoyable when I feel the urge to express myself, to tell the other person how I feel in every way I can imagine. And then to imagine more ways, and do it all over again.

p.s. possibly related--every time i go to the store, i keep buying those really cheap valentine's day cookies in the bakery, you know, the plastic clamshell box full of pink-and-red-sprinkled sugar cookies shaped like hearts? it's a real weakness. i love those things. mm mmm.
