i realized, to my astonishment, that there is no real urgency for the remix fic. i mean, because it's not due for a bit more than a month, i have my leisure.

therefore, rather than reading and re-reading the source material, i've started on a volume of northrop frye (lit crit) that i picked up at the lubbock (ahahah. ahem) library, spiritus mundi.

from the preface i already picked out a whole page's worth of typed quotes. slightly eccentric though he sometimes is, i idolize frye because he says so many things explicitly that i believe in my heart to be true of literature, but can't articulate to myself. reading frye is a long string of moments of excited epiphany, like really good fiction, a really beautiful music video (although to be fair, frye has never yet given me chills).

on our walk this morning encountered not one dead animal. someone had brought out a golden retriever and a dalmation and tied them together, then looped their leashes on a bench while they (the owner) played in the playground. poor dogs. the leash was quite short. perry and i had to give them wide berth. he gets very excited about meeting other dogs.

i can't taste anything because my sense of smell is gone. i ate a salad, and all i got out of it was a lot of crunching, and the tingle of vinegar (balsamic "grette) on my tongue. no real flavor. bananas and yogurt are just mushiness. cereal is just sort of crunchy, with that sticking-to-your-teeth quality that lettuce lacks.

i think perrin's going to be an inventor.

his favorite person to talk about is galileo, and he recently switched from talking all the time about milkalators (machines which make milk pop out) to talking all the time about various inventions, mostly involving both knives and flame. for instance, galileo's knife which cuts flame. or the grater made out of knives attached to a paperback book which one uses to grate up metal to mix with milk from the milkalator. (you drink the milk, but it doesn't hurt your mouth because the metal's ground up very small.)

and i got him a sharon, lois and bram cd, and he likes to sing the chicken medley ('c-h-i-c-k-e-n', 'lay a little egg for me,' and 'ham and eggs') all day long. actually, it would be more accurate to say that he likes to force other people to sing this song for him.

thank god my throat is no longer sore.

so many things to slash, so little time.

i want to type up the whole of rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead so i'll have it as reference when i finally get around to slashing tim roth and gary oldman.* i have a promise from [livejournal.com profile] wolfsage that if she ever gets to see the movie she'll write some too and then we'll have a fandom... two stories IS enough for a fandom, isn't it?

*the urge to slash the fictional characters is there too, but i'm suppressing hard.
