[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism:  it's your bus, baby.  look, it's even got the little royal purple curtains.

daddy went to some kind of official function--a paleozoic footprint site being "dedicated", now that the department of conservation owns it.  they turned over the earth and discovered... SOME TRILOBITES.*

daddy's extremely excited about this because, you see, trilobites are exclusively marine but the other fossils at the site are exclusively freshwater.  "there was apparently at least one more marine incursion in that part of this section during which fossils were preserved."  "if i have time i might try to write a short paper about it."

in other news, i have to go to class today.  blah.

*these were also the subject of his doctoral thesis.  not ALL trilobites, but, you know, something about them.

sigh

i think if i ever want to see my hair in wee ringlets ) again, i'm going to have to start washing it with boiled water or something.  the water's very hard here and it's kind of... limp and barely wavy, even though it's grown out around chin-length, which is when it sort of sprang up in bouncy curls when i was seventeen.

eta: damn, people are recommending putting drinking water filters in their showers. uh, no.

that was really an astonishingly good lecture, considering how many times she mentioned foucault.

the bunnies are fecund lately, or perhaps i should say my imagination is.  but my mind is bubbling over with three different infantile tim/gary bunnies, i think, all from today.  and i thought about the eventual re-writing of the method writing project lilah and i are working on quite a bit too.  i'm honestly kind of dreading that, but the method seems to produce a lot more things that you know you're going to have to redo even as you do them the first time.

...that may be all i've got for now.

over in harry potter fandom, they're overloading journalfen's servers again with something really... incredible.  a health insurance-less harry potter fan dying of a rare form of cancer asked an hp bnf, on a post asking people to raise money for breast cancer, to add a link to her fundraising site.  the bnf refused at length, and now fandom wank--and the cancer patient's journal--are in flames with trolling bnf minions who just don't shut up about how rude and presumptuous and selfish it was of the cancer patient to even ask.

[livejournal.com profile] nardasarmy(funkyhelix on jf) has written up a slightly longer but admirably complete and concise summary here, complete with instructions for how to ban the ones who've been trolling the dying woman's journal.  i just, i, wow.
