fucking philosophers
7 Sep 2006 10:56 amit turns out the class which used to be on how to write research papers when wax went to åbo akademi has now, due to the bologna requirements, become an actual 5-ECTS course in theory of scientific knowledge for social scientists (well, the other faculties have their own courses, but mine is together with the damn economists and political scientists aöslkdöfaklsd again. personally, i feel sociology should be put in with the psychologists instead). it's taught by a philosophy professor.
just like every other philosophy professor i've met he has a kind of distracted approach to talking and tends to both mumble and talk way too fast. maddening as it is, it's also kind of endearing (also like every other philosophy professor i've met). unfortunately, he has almost no idea he does it - the mumbling is the worst since we're in this huge auditorium, but when i mentioned it to him yesterday i got a blank look and his apologies, but he can only talk more clearly when he, like, remembers to and stuff. "but we're offering this same class in english later," he said, "it will be taught in six weeks, by me, in bad english." i told him i'd give it a try like this first. (i'm going to write my theses in english and probably most of my major research papers, but all the lectures are still in swedish and i'm going to be taking essay exams in swedish over the years so - might as well keep at it.)
