i feel a little down today, and it didn't help that 2/3 of my sociology texts aren't in the coursebook library, and aren't orderable from akademiska bokhandeln. ( my weekly schedule for the next couple of weeks )
on the plus side, there are supposedly 6 registered students in spanish 4, but one of them hasn't shown up. this makes for a really small class, and i'm already enjoying it tremendously. when i came home today, i discovered the livingroom full of dining furniture and the dog extremely anxious (he's neurotic and doesn't like furniture being moved). so i took apart the old table and put together the new one and now the kitchen looks like this (or this if you prefer). the livingroom is now full of the carcasses of two tables, but i still feel very accomplished.
also on the plus side, i've started slowly rereading one of my top favourite series of novels, cj cherryh's foreigner saga. i've read it five or six times (at various stages of completion, starting when only the first three had come out), but i've never read the two most recent (#7 & #8). well, it goes without saying that i think it's really good, but it's interesting to reread something i first read in middle school. i mean, i wasn't that far from being an adult, but i'm much more sensitive to the writing style, the point of view character's voice and what a whiny bitch he can be, how well-crafted the narration and the pov are and how incredibly cool it is to read all his confusion about the alien culture he will gradually come to understand much better. this is just one of the many directions in which my reflections of love have gone. i also read at cherryh's website this afternoon that the first two chapters of the first book - prequels - were added to the draft at the behest of her editor. that's fascinating! i've always found them out of place. i think it'd be better without them.
