i also watched the first two episodes of studio 60 at last. the main result of this was that wax and i determined to download and rewatch the complete run of the west wing (well, the sorkin seasons. she can watch the rest if she likes but i won't be a party to it), and also to watch the rest of sports night (i only watched s1; she only watched 4 eps).
and you know, as i said to her, the shape of fandom has changed a lot since those fandoms' heydays; this fandom is not going to be like those. the overall quality in tww and sn was pretty high, but the overall volume was pretty low (especially in sports night, especially compared to current fandoms with good livejournal-based fandoms and healthy filesharing communities).
i'm sure whatever happens with this fandom, it isn't going to be like those were: the volume of stories is going to be higher and they're going to fall more immediately into a regular quality bell-curve from the beginning with plenty of mediocre and bad to go around, just like the other high-buzz shows that have debuted in the past few years (house, supernatural, veronica mars). the high volume, though, will probably guarantee more fiction overall than sports night at least ever produced, which in principle is nice, but which in practise requires more work from the reader.
