cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (lazy)
For all my agonising and wearing a hole in the mental carpet thinking in circles, my mood is ultimately more affected by how sunny it is and how much I follow routines than by anything that happens to me. Becoming a Buddhist monk with regulated hours on the internet would probably actually kill my anxiety and depression dead. I might get kind of bored and want to be making something sometimes, though.

I saw Dr. Who Looks Like A Less Funny-looking Steve Buscemi and he gave me a worksheet and some encouragement and a whole printout of information about cognitive-behavioral therapy. Also, I made a new lj layout and some slightly singed brownies with sugar hearts last night.

Although I'm aware that my misanthropy and general irritability with and antipathy towards people in general and to large masses of people in particular is a direct function of my level of social anxiety, and that in moments of calm I am Pollyannaishly filled with sweetness and jollity, I still can't nix the ingrained habit of decades of sublimation. It sure feels like dislike. And it does me no good to reject that emotion (alas). Even if I'm feeling all Pollyanna I'm still a natural introvert, with an aversion to interacting with people even if I'm feeling all charitable-like towards the unwashed masses. I don't need or want many attachments. So mock if something is ridiculous, judge if your faculties of judgment are prompted to draw a conclusion, acknowledge your aversions if you have them and practise practical and perfectly warranted avoidance. Why not?

  • Poste Mistress's "Ready Go Bow" in red leather @ Shoewawa
    y/n?

ETA: Wait, something is wrong with this poll. ETA again: Whatever, apparently the lj poll server has crashed or something. Yes? No? Y if not for the bow? Feel free to ponder these and other questions.

  • sum1 prpzed on icanhascheezburger ysterday. with a lolcat. lol.

  • Ahahahhaha - a new kind of love meme! The John Sheppard-style "Things We Don't Talk or Hug About Meme", in which all expressions of love are constrained to be indicated by manly body language and grunts and such. The funniest part about this is probably that I immediately said, "If only all expressions of love in fandom were like this, soothingly decorous, instead of all gross and fake-seeming and effusive." Moar repressed than I thought? NB: I entirely approve of effusions of ILU with immediate family and a minimal selection of best friends (maybe four or five tops), just not with any old person you'd be delighted to chill with / do things for. I'm still not doing the meme, though. You have to have some principles.

  • So I think this new Marimekko dress ("Mariinski" by Mika Piirainen, Spring/Summer 08) needs to be mine. y/y?
And I wouldn't kick the shoes out of bed for eating crackers either. (Although, okay, I might be worried if my shoes were eating crackers. I'd probably avoid even touching them.)

  • The donuts are currently beating the Tim-Tams in [livejournal.com profile] snacky's annual Snackfood Death Match, but I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone could vote for donuts over Tim-Tams is if they've never slammed Tim-Tams with cocoa, cappuccino, or coffee (I love donuts, although to come totally clean Krispy Kreme are practically my least favourite kind; but let's be realistic). So Australians and devotees of Australian snackfood should make their voices heard!

cimorene: A giant disembodied ghostly green hand holding the Enterprise trapped (you shall not pass)
If you've been following the history of the legal battle between WB and Steve Vander Ark, who is/has been planning to publish a book version of his Harry Potter Lexicon (a website), you may be interested in the strangely grudge-smelling new episode posted by a sockpuppet and in particular this thread. There are also some worthwhile recipes in other threads, yo. (If you haven't been following the Lexicon battle, you might be a little lost. [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda has been documenting it in a series of posts recently on f_w.)

Race, Sex, Politics, and a bit of Radical Buffyism, by [livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy, is highly recommended reading on the current Democratic primary race, "I hurt worse" fights, tokenism, and the apparently monstrously threatening (to the American psyche) spectre of women in power. I think I agree with everything she's said on the subject here, which was rather satisfying as I've been discomfited recently by said "I hurt worse" fights and some hurtfully virulent racism and anti-feminism that I've seen coming mostly from, as it were, inside the house.
