Poirot's eyes change colour with emotion (specifically they get greener the smarter he's being), and Hastings frequently starts to feel indignant and then - I paraphrase - says that he can't stay mad at Poirot because he's so cute and/or lovable and/or affectionate. In the short story about the robbery at the Grand Metropolitan, the story is framed by them each springing for a joint vacation.
