Scenes from this afternoon.
[CIM brings the dog to the riverbank. There's no snow left, just a depressed-looking dead patch of sandy mud strewn with a few pieces of garbage. DUCKS approach immediately.]
PERRY: *sniffs shit*
DUCKS: *swim right up to the bank*
CIM: *watches uneasily*
PERRY: *ignores boring old ducks in favour of re-sniffing the same patch of mud for five solid minutes*
DUCKS: *ducky stare*
CIM: Are you dudes like... tame?
[TWO MORE MALLARDS, as if in answer, drop out of the sky and jet-ski halfway across the river, making straight for her.]
CIM: ...Wacky. Someone's been feeding you bitches!
DUCKS: *bobbing on the waves and drifting slightly closer*
CIM: Perry?
PERRY: *turns to sniffing a different patch of mud*
CIM: Hey... dog... let's get out of here.
[After a few urging motions, PERRY gets the picture, stops sniffing and leads the way back up the steps to the boardwalk.]
ONE MALE MALLARD: *gets out of the water and starts to follow*
[In the background: DUCKS. DUCKS. You think they're cuddly, I think they're sinister...]
Did you ever notice that male mallards have a sort of little curly cowlick on the ass right above their tail? Yup. All of 'em.

or: I Read Shipper Essays So You Don't Have To
This is what it says on the tin: an introduction/guide to getting into reading this pairing for people who aren't familiar (or up to date) with Supernatural canon.
I started wishing a while ago that someone would write something like this to make it easier for me to read because I was interested in dipping a toe in. I am nothing if not a voracious fannish omnivore - I read widely, and have frequently gotten into reading and shipping without any prior knowledge of the canon. That's more problematic in some cases than others, though. It depends on the canon (how complex? how long?) and the story (how canon-dependent? how much context does it provide? how many episode tags are there?). This pairing isn't the easiest to dive into headfirst, though. A little background explanation is probably necessary. (You can usually find information of this kind at
crack_van and
ship_manifesto - that was where I started looking.)
