A Discovery of Witches: I was just going to complain about how bad it was, but then I remembered Lost in Space. At least it hasn’t started raining on some ice here and had the water make the ice colder.
I feel like this comparison is going to be one I will make a lot, because it’s not often you reach such towering heights of ineptitude as reversing how ice works.
And that really did make me feel better about this show and its blonde Australian Kristen Stewart-lookalike with her subtly wrong American accent.
Matthew Goode is really good. And Finland was mentioned - yay!? - even if not convincingly portrayed, either in visuals or in the supposedly ‘Finnish’ accent. Its problem is that the first episode seems to depend entirely on the Harry Potter-like device of the protagonist doing the most egregiously foolish thing she can manage whenever faced with a choice (a pet peeve of mine, but not a violation of plausibility so far).
