so... early evidence suggests hikaru no go is completely awesome. i don't feel extremely coherent about it yet, but i do feel extremely impressed with the slashiness. for a while this afternoon i was feeling, kind of dizzily, that maybe all anime and manga is gay! and then i remembered that my sample is somewhat biased since i came to it from, you know, inside slash fandom. it is really pretty angsty - at least at this point. i keep alternating between giggles, warm squishy feelings, and the faint but distinct far-off creaking sound of my heart sloooowly cracking (*crick!*). but... ♥♥♥ oh! and also, mitani looks like a baby atobe.

I am just gorging myself on that too! It's fun, and the subtext seems to be spilling out all over. Sooo slashy!

yes! i find slashiness so inherently fun that i haven't actually spent that long gibbering over the angst at all. in fact, it tends to make the angst cute to me that they're so intense.

i have been considering seeking some of those manga you and daegaer are into so i could be in the same fandoms as you again but maybe now i won't have to! i wonder if there even is a[n english-speaking] fandom. i am determined not to look until i either watch all the anime or read all the scanlated manga i can find.

Ha! That is just what I thought too when I saw you were reading Hakiru no Go. Yay! A fandom we can share. Although I would love it if you read Saiyuki. I can send you the scans and everything. *tries not to beg too hard*

Anyway, I've read up to vol 16 of the manga now, which is chap 139. Touya keeps thinking things like 'Shindo, come to me!' and there is much angst. Also, Ogata is getting pretty hot.

ps, I don't suppose you've got vol 17 scans have you, as it's the only one I'm missing?

I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT FOR DAYS. I HAVE NO TIME. AND I'm just finishing up Laura's beta now because I had the misfortune to accidentally fall asleep for a 6-hour nap, and BoP AU fic is next and I'm totally going to gibber all over your manuscript, so be prepared.

Which comment really is to say I am SO GLAD you like it. I love Hikago every bit as much as I love PoT, but in a completely different way. Oh, Hikaru. Oh, Touya.

maybe you shouldn't waste your time gibbering all over my manuscript! i adore your gibbering of course. you're so cute, you're like sai when you get all excited (you really need one of those "&haerts;!" sai moments in an icon). but if you exert yourself too much to squee and encourage people you will run out of fandom stamina again! be careful! :O

i will be happy to squee with you when you get around to it. meanwhile, it looks like i can squee at [livejournal.com profile] perhael. she was remarkably easy to talk around with hikago considering how tough she's been wrt tenipuri, but i'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I would also like to say that I'm glad that you, and others, are loving Hikaru no Go. It's such an awesome series. Hiraku and Akira's relationship of rivalry is such a consuming one that, whether they are gay or straight, it requires total concentration only on each other. There is no room for competing relationships in their lives. In that way, I feel their relationship goes right past the slash and straight into canonical soulmate-ness. They're not married now, like the Golden Pair, but they're on their way there by the end of the series.

Right, I'll stop babbling now. You haven't finished the series yet, so I don't want to influence your experience of it with all my opinions. Sorry, I just don't get to discuss Hikago with very many people. ^_^

i... i... really feel that i haven't read enough to actually get what you're talking about. anyway, it's hard for me to imagine hikaru and akira's relationship ever transmuting into anything like the golden pair's (though to some kind of married, certainly). there's no fundamental rivalry at the bottom of them. it's very fascinating, the whole... situation so inherently poignant and provocative. and angsty.

er, i mean, the fundament of the golden pair's relationship isn't rivalry.

How would you feel like spending a day watching El-Hazard with me and a random selection of other people?
