a bit of fuji love

cimorenei was feeling restless, but "it's a date!" was the perfect pick-me-up. it's nice that pot episodes are just 22 minutes. it's like a perfect bite-sized morsel of awesomeness. ♥ the theme of this particular post will be "FUJI!"
first of all, the one thing in the hyotei arc that doesn't really fit in with my transports of tezuka/ryoma joy: fuji/taka.
this leaves out some caps i have from the eps before and after 61--at the beginning of kawamura's match, fuji handing him his racket; and fuji's little happy moment when ryuzaki and the invalids return during tezuka's match and their presence is announced by kawamura hoisting the team flag and waving it around. fuji and yuuta are also quite cute together in this arc.

bookshop said the other day that everything is a symbol to tezuka, but in a way i see this as being even more true of fuji. i bet he has read bunches about dream interpretation. i'm sure that haiku-based polite society in the tale of murasaki1 (which might be close to actual heian society or might be completely made up--i'm afraid i'm not sure) would appeal even more to him than it would to tezuka. fuji is obviously invested in symbolic gestures besides just using tennis to crush his enemies, which the whole using-taka's-bloody-racket thing illustrates very elegantly and hotly. how cool is this gesture? the whole thing becomes even cooler in that fuji obviously bears no personal ill-will towards jiroh, so even though he's completely serious (and has two reasons to mercilessly beat him!) he's perfectly friendly (although jiroh is adorably disarming, i don't doubt that fuji could be brilliantly cold if he wanted to. it's fuji. plus just look at him in "it's a date!" aöskldjfasökldjfaösfjöaslöfsd.)

one of the other best things about this arc is the ficpenm hasn't finished yet about it. *.* wowguh.
1. this is by that one western woman who became a geisha in the 70s, and with the caveat that i haven't reread it in about three years, i recommend it highly.
second, fuji being made of awesome in "it's a date!"
fuji's freakiness (as opposed to scariness or hotness) with his eyes open in ep 71 is at a high point, which causes me to wonder idly why i haven't read any painfully serious angsty badfic about how he knows his eyes make him a freak and that's why he keeps them closed all the time. ... okay, actually, i haven't read all that much fuji fic. someone please tell me this exists? please? after all, it's not that big a leap from the fic where his smile is actually the outer manifestation of a phobia-strength terror of revealing anything about his genuine feelings to anyone.

2. ryoma has excellent fashion sense and tezuka has... wtf? (of course we already knew this about tezuka.)
