cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (international woman of mystery)

last night i was trying to wrestle with a paragraph and its stupid 'he's and 'him's again, as one does when one is writing slash, and complaining about english and its stupid lack of reflexive-possessive and reflexive-objective pronouns again, also as one does. my english gay porn arena shirt came up, as it does.

it was conceived last may or june, when [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism and i were walking downtown with the effervescent [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_chi and the adorable [livejournal.com profile] anglepoiselamp and complaining (as one... right) about the same issue and finally someone exclaimed, "english just fails in the gay porn arena!" then we realised that we couldn't live without the phrase "english gay porn arena" on a tshirt. i wear it frequently, but am sad to report i have not yet garnered any comments on it.

it doesn't seem fair that you can't simply import the necessary pronouns from swedish, however.

[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism: swedish was made for gay porn. they just don't know it.

aslökdjföaskldjöj. god. i just spent like an hour translating this paragraph FOR NO REASON. i am such an ocd freak.

Japanese works quite well, too. Except for the fact that it's really, really lacking in erotic words and thus most fic tends to use "are" ("that") or "mono" ("thing") and other extremely vague words.
