rokkaku arc! and momokai!

cimorenei've been gorging myself on prince of tennis. so now i present things cim loved about the rokkaku arc, a screencap-essay in 42 images.
091 momo and kaidoh watch ryoma and kentaro's practise match together. they start to notice kentaro's pinpointing technique at the same time and have a telepathic conversation wherein kaidoh goes "hey..." and momo goes, "yeah... something's weird about that." (that's a paraphrase.)
091 then momo lounges all over kaidoh on the train home. well, almost. aww, look at them. ♥
092 in this episode the momo-kawamura pair are losing at doubles and when they turn the game around, even inui is surprised...
092 ...fuji, ryoma, and kaidoh are the only ones smirking instead of shocked. because fuji knows his husband and ryoma knows his best friend and kaidoh and momo's love is... true, or something, though given all the chemistry, probably not pure. ♥
092 (even momo isn't smirking! look at their serious faces!)
093 one other thing to love about this arc is this doubles pair where the one guy makes stupid puns and then the other kicks him in the head. seriously. ♥
094 here is eiji being adorable.
094 and again.
094 and then fuji being scary.
094 and even scarier. eiji is totally tired, but fuji's all, "that's okay, you can leave it to me from here. ^__^"
094 and then he opens his eyes and glares into the sunlight and the blowing wind...
095 ...and then proceeds to run around the court returning every shot aimed at eiji, and then figure out how to use tsubame gaeshi to return a shot with no spin.
095 i think it's significant to point out that he doesn't even consider pulling out either of the other triple counters. he isn't actually serious, here.
095 he's just not willing to allow the insult to his counter pass. he has to win with it now.
095 inui calls him "god-like". öakdjföalskjdöflaks.
095 not inappropriately.

096 then it's time for ryoma and kentaro's match. kentaro is as enthusiastic as a labrador puppy and ryoma is like the cat being asked to play tag.
096 fuji watches the whole thing with his husband.
096 kentaro has a kind of labrador puppy facial expression, too. even more vacant than eiji's, if possible. i think it's something about those eyebrows.
096 ryoma seems to be a little alarmed.
097 when he comes home late, he goes to his room to change and when he comes in the kitchen it's to find his dad saying he must have lost. that doesn't make him scowl, though. what makes him scowl is his dad giving him one of those porn magazines to cheer him up. then he says "that isn't to your taste?" - demonstrating remarkable acumen considering he still doesn't know anything about tezuka, i'm pretty sure. or maybe that fanon about how fuji secretly gives them tons of suggestive photos of each other is true.
097 hello, ryoma in the bath. this series of caps is pretty suggestive, actually. it could be useful in a vid. hey, i'm just saying.
097 then he goes back to the sports park in the middle of the night, or rather, a while before dawn, and unexpectedly meets kentaro.
097 they play tennis till past dawn.
097 and then fall asleep under a tree. notice that everyone on the team is astonished on this pass of reaction shots...
097 ...even fuji.
097 awwww.
097 although fuji quickly recovers himself while everyone else is still boggling.
097 ryoma is the most adorable thing ever.
097 and when ryuzaki-sensei sends him off to wash his face he gets even cuter.
at this point momo says, "what were they doing?" yes, momo, what could they have been doing at the tennis courts, dressed in their tennis clothes, surrounded by their tennis gear? i really wonder. "i think i know," says fuji, not exactly at his most supernaturally knowing.
097 then ryoma wins, and oji comes over and gives a piece of candy to everyone on the team (and they all look freaked out except fuji)...
097 ...except kaidoh. he runs out. kaidoh looks distressed and hisses and oji mocks him.
but note momo's face there. he totally gave kaidoh his piece later.
097 ryoma also doesn't get a piece because he's drinking ponta under the tree.
097 kentaro bounces over to say he wants another match later.
097 but ryoma is no longer enthusiastic. he's beaten kentaro once and even evolved during the game! surely buchou wouldn't want any more than that?

098 and then there is momokai in the billiards episode. well, mostly just them hanging out together and talking quietly together again, but...

abstract: this arc is full of momokai. also, it contains a bunch of fuji being scary and owning the universe, fuji-inui interaction, and eiji being adorable. also, ryoma being adorable and sulky. oh, and ryoma in the bath and nanjiroh teasing him about being gay. and that rokkaku doubles pair where one makes a pun and then the other kicks him in the head are really great. ps. momo and kaidoh were cute in the billiards episode, too.
